The guests were asked to dress to impress as we fundraised in style at the 7th annual Celebration of Women Long Table Lunch on Monday 26th April.
Over 530 guests, including sponsors, corporate tables, families of our past honourees and many who have been touched by breast cancer did not let us down with our request. There were many fabulous frocks and suits arriving as they walked the red carpet to the huge marquees set up on the main arena of the Claremont Showgrounds.
The Anzac Day public holiday was a perfect sunny day to hold the event. As the guests arrived they were greeted by Feet First sparkling wine, purple daiquiri’s, delicious canapés and the easy listening tunes of Courtney Murphy, while perusing a range of silent auction items.
Guests were in awe as the 45m main dining marquee was unveiled to see 14 rows of long tables beautifully presented with red flower arrangements, programmes, and special gifts for the corporate tables.
Hosted by the Breast Cancer Foundation of WA’s newly appointed ambassador, Narelda Jacobs, the day got off to an exciting start with a burst of applause for the team of 50+ volunteers serving the entrée prepared by All Seasons Catering and Graham Arthur Catering.
Ros Worthington and Damian Fawkes gave a heartfelt dedication for this year’s honouree Lorraine Fawkes, a strong spirit who recently lost her battle with breast cancer after 13 years. The moving tribute saw not many dry eyes however in true celebration many warm hugs followed and the guests stood to sing and dance along to celebrate the life of Lorraine with one of her favourite songs, Somebody’s Crying by Chris Isaak.
The main course was then served and was beautifully presented thanks to the chefs of Brush Fork + Pencil and Gala Restaurant.
The ‘Mouth from the South’ auctioneer Tiny Holly then took to the stage who had the audience in stitches and also giving generously for a range of exciting auction items including a Brownlow Medal Package, Masterchef Experience, Holiday to Broome, a giant block of Cadbury milk chocolate and more.
The beautiful spread of desserts and cheese was a great way to top off the lunch, accompanied by coffee by Perth Coffee Express and European Foods.
Once all the formalities were over, a real party burst out with Daren Reid & the Soul City Groove live on stage and the dance floor at capacity.
We are very pleased to say that the event has raised over $75,000! These funds will help to provide personalised support and care to Western Australians, both women and their families who have faced a diagnosis of breast cancer.
The day was once again a fabulous moment to remember and celebrate. Of course this would not have been possible without the incredible support of over 165 businesses and suppliers and a team of 130+ volunteers who gave up their day to make this come together. Thanks also to the Subiaco Football Club and the volunteers on the Sunday who helped to set up all of the tables and the kitchen!
A special thank you must go out to Reeces, RASWA, Austage, Staging Connections, Alkoomi Wines, Feet First Wines, European Foods, The Wembley Hotel, The Claremont Hotel, Brush Fork + Pencil, Gala Restaurant, All Seasons Catering and Graham Arthur Catering. And our fabulous floor/kitchen manager, Heidy!
Thankyou also to Sayakas Kitchen, Good Mood Food, Robert Duval Foods, Chez Jean-Claude Pattiserie, New Norcia Bakery for the canapés.
Thankyou to Red Pepper Catering, For the Coffee Table, The Danish Patisserie, European Foods (Baci chocolates), Blue Cow Cheese and the Cake Factory for desserts and cheese.
