Financial support

Short-term financial relief and practical support services

Reducing distress for those experiencing hardship

Breast cancer treatment can reduce a client’s capacity to work and perform everyday tasks that many of us take for granted. By providing short-term financial relief and practical support services (such as household cleaning, child care or transport to and from appointments), we aim to reduce distress for those experiencing hardship.

If there are financial issues arising as a result of your breast cancer treatment we may be able to offer some short term financial assistance or refer you to an appropriate community support service. Financial toxicity is a side effect of breast cancer, with one quarter of women with breast cancer paying more than $17,200 in out-of-pocket costs in the five years after their diagnosis.

Our Impact

We receive no government funding, and rely on our generous supporters to be able to provide support to everyone affected by breast cancer in WA. The donations we receive go towards specialist care and counselling, but also towards practical support.

The number of clients accessing financial assistance has increased by 40%, highlighting the rising need for financial relief within the WA breast cancer community.

With 874 instances of support provided in 2024, BCCWA remains a vital resource for WA families navigating both the challenges of breast cancer and financial strain during treatment and recovery.

Telling my kids was the hardest of all. They all cried and asked if I was going to die. I told them no, I’m tough and I will crush this.

It was this decision, that upon reflection, I wish I had made earlier but I have since learned that you can’t change the past, you just have to try your best and move forwards.

The actual experience of jumping out of a plane was just amazing. I’m so glad I did it.

I’m a busy mum and I don’t often have time to prioritise myself first, it is always everyone else in the house and then if I have time I will do something for myself. But I thought yes, sure, I will do this for myself.
